How Technology Can Make Dining More Convenient

Our guests lead increasingly busy lives, which is why leveraging technology to provide more convenience for our guests is so important. Here are three ways Darden is doing just that.

When you think of dining out and restaurants, you probably think of your favorite entrée and the way it will taste, or an evening out with friends or family.  

Technology may not be top-of-mind.  However, the use of technology in restaurants has increased exponentially in the last few years to help make that evening out even more enjoyable.

According to a study by the National Restaurant Association, more than one-third of consumers are "more likely to use technology-related options in restaurants now than they did just two years ago".  Consumers are looking for ways to enhance their dining experiences, from faster takeout service to seating and bill pay, and the restaurant industry is listening.

Here’s some of the ways Darden is using technology to make your guest experience more convenient.

  • Online Ordering.  Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse favorites are just a click away with online ordering. Create an account, order ahead and then pick-up at the restaurant.  You can even save your favorite meals for an even quicker ordering experience the next time.
  • Tabletop Tablets.  Olive Garden is currently testing tablets at the table that allow guests to browse the menu, order drinks, appetizers and desserts, and pay their bill all from the comfort of the table.
  • Web-Ahead Seating.  Rather than having to put your name on a wait list when you arrive at the restaurant, we’ve been testing Web-ahead seating at select locations at both Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse.  This convenient service allows guests to go online and see wait times at restaurants and put their names on the waiting list.  After guests arrive and check in with the host, they'll receive a text when their table becomes available.
