Thanks to the support of the Darden Restaurants Foundation, the Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF) is able to encourage these students to achieve their dream.

Since 2008, the Darden Foundation has contributed nearly $200,000 to help students in local communities by providing college scholarships and at the national level through APIASF’s work to mobilize resources to accelerate student success. More than 60 percent of the students supported through the APIASF / Darden Restaurants Foundation scholarship are first generation college students. The opportunity for these students to access higher education will have a long-term effect as a college degree opens the door for future professional success. A college education often serves as a transformational experience impacting a student’s family and community which will make a difference for generations to come.

“Receiving the APIASF/ Darden Restaurants Foundation scholarship has lightened my financial burden which allows me to focus more on academics,” said 2013 - 2014 APIASF / Darden Restaurants Foundation Scholar Zhiqiang Liao. “Your generosity has inspired me to make my contributions to the community in the future.  I hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals just as you have helped me.”

Christine Do, another Scholar, shared the impact the scholarship was making in her life.  She said, “Thank you for selecting me to be one of the recipients for your scholarship out of thousands of applicants. I also want to thank you for recognizing and believing in my potential and desire to attend college. As a first generation and first in my family Scholar to be able to obtain a college education, receiving this scholarship ensures that I can continue my pursuit for a higher education which means the absolute world to me."

APIASF / Darden Restaurants Foundation Scholar, Vechai Vang, shared that “expenses are one of the main reasons that can possibly cause a student to abandon their career.  I am exceptionally thankful for being one of the people to receive such beneficial support from this scholarship program. This wonderful scholarship will be the key to the door of my future.”

Thanks to the ongoing support of the Darden Foundation, APIASF will be able to continue inspiring AAPI students as they look to obtain a college degree. For more information about APIASF and how to get involved, visit www.apiasf.org.
