Bill White was named Treasurer for Darden Restaurants in May 2005. He oversees treasury, international franchising, risk management and capital discipline within the Company.
Darden owns and operates more than 1,600 Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, Yard House, The Capital Grille, Seasons 52, Bahama Breeze and Eddie V’s restaurants in North America, employing 165,000 people and serving 380 million guests annually.
Bill joined Darden in 1989 as a Senior Financial Analyst and held positions of increasing responsibility, including Director of Marketing Analysis for Red Lobster. In 1995, he was promoted to Assistant Treasurer for Darden. Four years later, Bill was named Vice President and Treasurer, with responsibilities for managing Darden’s short and long-term financing needs, cash management activities, banking and investment banking relationships, hedging processes and other key strategies geared towards ensuring the maximization of shareholder value, including acquisitions. He is also responsible for overseeing the Company’s financial discipline around capital investment decision making and insurable risk management.
In his current role, Bill led the analysis and execution of the Company’s comprehensive real estate value maximization strategy in 2015, which included the sale leaseback of select restaurant properties and the Company’s headquarters, as well as the spin-off of a newly formed company called Four Corners Property Trust that will elect REIT status in 2016. He was an integral part of the team that led Darden’s acquisitions of LongHorn Steakhouse, The Capital Grille, Eddie V’s and Yard House. He also directed the analysis and sale process for the Company’s disposition of its Red Lobster and Smokey Bones brands. Bill was responsible for developing Darden’s corporate finance strategies following the company’s spin-off from General Mills in 1995.
Prior to joining Darden, Bill was a Senior Auditor with Arthur Andersen & Co.
Bill is a national and regional board member of Canine Companions for Independence, an organization dedicated to providing highly-trained service dogs to individuals with disabilities. He received a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, and earned an MBA in Finance and Marketing from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Bill is also a Certified Public Accountant.
